Volunteers offer invaluable support to the National Zoo. They work with visitors and staff, plants and animals, independently and in groups, on weekdays and weekends. They learn, help the Zoo with education and conservation activities, and have fun! Find out about benefits of volunteering.
Although most volunteers must be at least 18 years old, we do offer several programs for younger teens. An interest in animals and their conservation is a must.

An Invitation to Learn More
Twice a year, in the spring and fall, the FONZ Volunteer Department hosts a Prospective Volunteer Overview. These informational evening events include an overview of volunteering at the Zoo, a slide show on specific programs, and the opportunity to speak with current volunteers and staff. A date has not yet been set for our next event. If you would like to attend, please
email us. We will contact you with you the details a few weeks before the overview. We encourage everyone interested in volunteering to
complete this form.
Please note: This event does not cover our teen programs. Prospective volunteers ages 18 and older are invited.
Attendance at this overview is simply for informational purposes and does not affect your application to a program.
